VIDEO: Cilla Outs Undercover Journalist

blind date

Published at 6:02am 3rd August 2015. (Updated at 6:14am 3rd August 2015)

As Britain pays tribute to Cilla Black, after her death was announced at the age of 72, some of her best TV moments are going viral online.

They include Blind Date when she played the affable matchmaker to countless couples, always asking whether she would need to buy a new hat for a wedding.

But that masked a steely determination to look after the show and the people working on it.

Nowhere was that more evident than the episode in which an undercover journalist managed to get onscreen, posing as a contestant.

Nicola Gill claimed to be a part time secretary, but Cilla discovered she was actually planning to write an article about the series for Cosmopolitan.

Backed by a shocked audience Cilla waited until she returned from her date and declared: "Well Nicola, I have to say I've got more than a little surprise for you. 'I know what you're at and I feel awfully, deeply saddened by this. You don't work as a temporary secretary.

"I know for a fact that you're actually an undercover journalist and you've robbed somebody of coming on a proper Blind Date. You work for Cosmopolitan magazine.

"It's just a shame you tried to pull the wool over our eyes - but you didn't!"

Watch the moment it happens - and the look in Nicola's eyes - here...
