The new Doctor Who has been revealed - and it will a woman for the first time ever!

The news Broadchurch star Jodie Whittaker will take over the Tardis came straight after the men's final at Wimbledon.

The BBC had already teased ahead to the announcement, with a special video clip showing a key and images of the number 13 in a string of locations.

Among them, a desert, on an iPhone, on a road sign, Downing Street and even atop the Statue of Liberty.

A Pirate FM poll is asking what you think about the first female Time Lord.

Scroll down to have your say or watch the teaser and the big reveal...

Rumours were rife before the announcement with names like fellow Broadchurch star Olivia Colman being touted, especially as its writer is joining the Doctor Who team.

Death in Paradise actor Kris Marshall, who also appeared in Love Actually, was another name on the list of possible stars to replace Peter Capaldi.

Fans went wild on Twitter just hours before the official news, with some saying Kris was definitely the new Doctor.

Others claimed they thought his name was dropped as a decoy, to flush out who was leaking information to the media.

Former Doctor Who star David Tennant was in the crowd at Wimbledon, cue speculation from the commentators.

One said: "We're going to find out who the thirteenth Doctor is after this match. It might be a woman. You never know".

So what do you reckon? Good choice? Dozens of you have been commenting on Pirate FM's Facebook page.

Paul was not happy, posting: "No way! I'm no sexist but the BBC have killed the show. RIP".

Paula said: "Since David Tennant left I don't think Doctor Who has been the same. Shame really - I used to love watching it".

But Ade wrote: "Er, yes? How could it be anything else but fascinating".

Samantha added: "So much negativity. As long as she can make the character her own then where is the problem? So far, every new Doctor has been hated in the beginning; just give her a chance".

The Christmas special will be Peter Capaldi's last show as the Doctor, before Jodie Whittaker takes over.

In the meantime, here is a reminder of how things unfolded in the Series 10 finale...
