Memorable moments that defined the Brits

stage awards

Published at 3:09pm 20th February 2019. (Updated at 3:12pm 20th February 2019)

It's the most prestigious night of the year and a celebration of British music but how many of these moments from the Brit Awards of the past do you remember?

2015 - Madonna takes a tumble

The stage was set, the lights were low and the veiled appearance of the undisputed Queen of Pop made everyone hold their breath in anticipation.

Then, she hit the deck with a thud but with the words of the song "I'm going to carry on" she proved what a pro she truly is!

2012 - Adele's acceptance speech cut short

She'd just won Album of the Year but because the powers that be at ITV were worried about not getting to the news on time, her acceptance speech was cut short.

Cue an angry Adele poised with a middle finger as she was ushered off the stage.

Note to ITV: Don't mess with Adele. She made light of it when she returned to the Brits again in 2016.

1996 - Jarvis Cocker invades the stage during Michael Jackson's performance of Earth Song

We've featured the Queen of Pop, the King of Pop had issues of his own at the Brit Awards in the 1990s when Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker stormed the stage during Jacko's performance of Earth Song.

1989 - Samantha Fox and Mick Fleetwood host the Brit Awards

Whoever thought of pairing former Page 3 model, turned pop star (enough said on that) with the frontman of the legendary group Fleetwood Mac?

The whole thing was a shambles from start to finish with missed lines, introducing the wrong act, announcing the winner before nominations were given.

The list goes on. See for yourself and cringe!

1997 - That Union Jack dress worn by Geri from Spice Girls

Cast your mind back to when girl power was driven by the Spice Girls.

They were at the top of their game when it came to the Brit Awards in 1997 having had 4 number singles at the time they were about to take to the stage. Cue Geri in that dress!

2011 - Adele (again!) and that performance!

After winning the Brit Awards Critics Choice in 2007, there was much anticipation at the Brit Awards in 2011 with the news that Adele was making a long awaited return.

She did not disappoint with the song Someone Like You!

2005 - Scissor Sisters recreate Sesame Street live on the Brits stage!

If you fell asleep whilst watching the 2005 Brit Awards and then woke up half way through this performance from the Scissor Sisters you'd be forgiven for thinking you'd woken up half way through a totally different programme.

What were they thinking? PS - the Melons are our favourite!

1992 - KLF open the Brit Awards loudly!

This was all a little awkward, not content at winning Best British Group (unusually a joint win with Simply Red), KLF open the 1992 Brit Awards performing their hit 3AM Eternal along with croaky throats and machine guns.

Not something your mother would approve of!
