The Cornish Pirates have signed a new player.

Prop forward Tommy Phillips has been named as the latest talented youngster to join the Cornish Pirates Player Development Foundation - the PDF.

Tommy, who lives in Cadgwith and has worked from the village as a full-time fisherman, was educated at Ruan Minor Primary School, Mullion Secondary School, and then Truro College where he played for the 1st XV.

His first rugby, however, was played at mini level for Helston, when he was aged seven.

Representing Cornwall through the age groups, and having played for Redruth in National Two South during 2014/15, Tommy also played in the senior side's County Championship Final win against Lancashire at Twickenham.

A further honour was to play for the England Counties under 20s team on their tour to Hungary.

Pleased to welcome the latest PDF recruit aboard, Director of Rugby Ian Davies said: "We feel Tommy is another Cornish youngster with a big future ahead of him. Having had a strong showing last season in National Two the basic rugby foundations are in place and it is now just a case of layering conditioning, game understanding and playing with a greater intensity on top to aid Tommy in pushing on in the professional game."
