VIDEO: Watch Civil Servant Try And Wriggle His Way Out Of Saying "Boaty McBoatface"

Published at 10:24am 28th April 2016.

Boaty McBoatface has won people’s hearts across the UK but it looks like civil servant Martin Donnelly is not necessarily a huge fan.

MPs on the Public Accounts Committee were eager to hear him say the name of the popular research ship.

An online vote backfired when people across the country decided to back the suggestion for the multimillion pound polar research vessel.

Tory MP Richard Bacon was adamant he wanted to hear the words, asking repeatedly: “Can you state for the record which name won the contest?”

After four attempts at rephrasing the question, Donenlly finally caved saying: “I believe Boaty McBoatface won…”

Mr Bacon was thrilled and responded with: "I just wanted you to say that on record. And you did.”

Despite Boaty McBoatface receiving more than 124,000 votes to become the name of the new £200m research ship it is unclear whether this will be the case, as the science minister will have the final say.
