Child Instagram Hacker Earns $10k

Published at 11:22am 5th May 2016.

Facebook have given a 10-year-old boy a £10,000 reward, after he found a glitch in the company’s photo sharing app, Instagram.

Despite the young Finnish child being too young to have his own account due to the apps terms and conditions, Jani was able to hack into comments.

The hacker said he had learned coding from YouTube videos and discovered a method to delete user comments on Instagram.

Jani said:“I wanted to see if Instagram’s comment field could stand malicious code. Turns out it couldn’t.

“I could have deleted anyone’s comments from there. Even Justin Bieber’s.”

Facebook announced that the glitch was fixed in February and Jani received his reward in March for identifying it as part of the company's Bug Bounty programme, which offers rewards to White Hat hackers and researchers who have identified glitches in their digital structure.
