Newlyweds Ask Gobsmacked Guest For A 'Bigger Contribution'

Published at 10:13am 11th May 2016. (Updated at 6:25am 12th May 2016)

A wedding guest has been left shocked after sending newlyweds a cheque for £100 - and being told it wasn't good enough.

The anonymous user posted the story on Mumsnet, after attending the wedding of her ex colleague.

Later she received an email which said: “We were surprised that your contribution didn’t seem to match the warmth of your good wishes on our big day. In view of your own position if you wanted to send any adjustment it would be thankfully received.”

The wedding guest turned to online forum Mumsnet saying that she was "utterly gobsmacked” by the message.

In a matter of days she has been inundated with comments of shock and support.

One user said: “I am dying to know how she could justify such an outrageous ask!”

Another said: “That is entitled and grabby. It’s a gift not an obligation and many people wouldn’t have given so much to an ex colleague.”

User MrsKeats said: “Rudest thing I’ve ever heard. Please cancel the cheque and buy us all cakes.”

The puzzled wedding guest decided to reply with: “I assume this was some sort of mistake?”.

The bride and groom have yet to respond.
