PHOTO: Mum Captures Every Moment Of Her Daughter To Say Sorry

Published at 3:14pm 12th September 2016.

A London mum has shared her experience with postnatal depression and is capturing every possible moment of her daughter growing up as a way to “say sorry”.

The photographer wrote on Facebook that she “shooed” the doctor away when her daughter, Aayat was born.

She is now three, and Sujata wants to keep hold of memories through photographing her child.

She said: “Physical trauma won over the love for my child.”

Sujata writes online: “I have sworn I will capture possibly every single growing-up moment of my daughter - Aayat's life. It is my way of saying sorry to her for being so angry and ungrateful, when she was born.

“I never wanted to have a child. Being a mother did not come naturally to me. When Aayat was born, I went into depression for a very long spell because for me to accept that I owe every single minute of my life to someone else, was just impossible.

“But it made me realise how deeply I love her and how much of what I am today, I owe to her. She has been a constant source of learning for me. She has made me realise that to be self centred is easy but to surrender yourself in love for someone is the only way to find true happiness.”

She continues: “She has made me realise that to be self centred is easy but to surrender yourself in love for someone is the only way to find true happiness.”

People were quick to comment on Sujata's words.

Shailu Mogill said: “The only Greatest True Love I ever felt was the love towards my kids and their love towards me. Kids are truly a blessing.”

Charlotte Raw wrote: “Honesty about motherhood is so important Sujata, for normalising and I think many mothers are drawn to Photography as its a way to stop the clock, If only for a second, when time moves so fast and children grow in the blink of an eye, and the hardship of the task means we rarely have time to look properly in the moment and appreciate what we have. Lovely pictures as always.”

Another posted: “Your honesty is so refreshing. Thanks for normalising all aspects of motherhood, good and bad! Your photographs are just the cherry on top, your daughter will remember the good times with you forever!”
