Johnny Cowling recovering from suspected coronavirus

Pirate FM's very own Johnny Cowling has opened up about his "horrific" experience as he recovers from suspected coronavirus.

Our fabulous Hometime Show co-host fell ill around two weeks ago, after his son came home from college feeling poorly.

Johnny then developed symptoms of Covid-19, he became very unwell with a chronic flu-like illness, which left him weak, out of breath and with a bad cough.

He had a turn in the early hours one morning and his wife Sarah had to call NHS 111 who gave him help and advice.

Thankfully Johnny is now on the mend and is recovering at home with his family.

Now he is thanking our incredible NHS staff for everything they are doing and he is urging people to stay at home.

You can listen to him explain what happened below...

Johnny Cowling opens up as he recovers from suspected coronavirus

"I've never felt as poorly. It was like a chronic flu. I still can't be sure it's the coronavirus but my God it was horrific.

"I had a bit of a turn about 5am one morning. My wife Sarah called 111 and the woman on the other end was amazing and talked me through because I was getting anxious.

"I was a limp rag. I couldn't move and had a cough that really gets on your nerves.

"We just have to do as we're told and stay home. For people on their own it must be so scary.

"Everyone has been so kind. We will get through this but it has knocked us a bit.

"A big thanks to the NHS, what they're going through, dear lord. Bless them."
