Jack Stein & Ross Geach Launch Virtual Food Festival

Fancy attending a delicious food festival celebrating the best of Cornish cuisine, whilst in lockdown?

It might sound impossible, but Jack Stein, Chef Director at Rick Stein restaurants, and Ross Geach of Padstow Kitchen Garden have launched a virtual food festival with headline chefs including Rick Stein and Angela Hartnett.

Taking place on Easter Monday, the festival aims to showcase and support local farmers, fishermen and food suppliers, who have lost valuable trade with the enforced restaurant closures but are still able to support those in the community and further afield with food deliveries to homes.

The virtual festival will include live demonstrations every hour on Monday from chefs including Rick Stein, Angela Hartnett, José Pizarro, Mitch Tonks, Rick Toogood, Ross Geach and Jack Stein. The demonstrations will feature suppliers that are able to sell their produce for people to cook at home and inspiration on how to cook and make the best use of the seasonal produce.

The idea is the brainchild of Ross, who after receiving cancellations to attend a number of festivals in person, wanted to find a way to bring the food festival atmosphere to peoples’ homes as well as showcasing local food suppliers. A conversation ensued with Jack and the ‘Virtual Food Festival’ was created.

Ross Geach comments “I can’t believe that an idea I came up with less than a week ago, to help support local suppliers such as farmers and fishermen who need to find a way to sell directly to the public, is happening with the help of friends, Jack and the Stein team. Hopefully we can promote businesses, help people learn how to cook and have some fun along the way.”

Jack Stein comments “When Ross came to me and suggested this concept it just made so much sense. It’s a simple idea – whilst our restaurants are closed and we’re not able to buy from our brilliant suppliers, we help to showcase their great produce so customers can order directly from them.”

The festival will be streamed live on the @ricksteinrestaurants Instagram channel, with Rick Stein opening the festival at 10am on Monday 13th April. For more information please visit www.virtualfoodfestival.org

Virtual festival goers will also be invited to make a donation to the National Emergency Trust charity.
