A Cornish cancer survivor has recently completed a 100 kilometre walk for charity - in her own garden!

Wendy Barker, from Gorran Haven, began walking at 7:30am on Wednesday the 15th of April and after hours of walking all day and through the night, Wendy finished the humongous challenge 23 hours later at 6:45am the following morning.

100km equates to 770 laps of her garden - plus 54 laps as her FitBit wasn't correctly logging the distance!

Her aim was to complete 100km in less that 24 hours - which she achieved comfortably with an hour to spare - all whilst raising as much money as possible for NHS Charities Together.

The challenge was inspired by her own experience being cared for by the NHS. Two years ago Wendy recovered from breast cancer and created this mighty challenge to try and give something back to our NHS heroes.

On her Just Giving page, Wendy says 'They helped me when I was diagnosed with cancer a few years ago and they help each and everyone of us throughout our lifetimes. This is my way of saying a huge thank you to them all. You are superheroes'.

Having completed five 100km ultra challenges in the past three years, Wendy is no stranger to the distance, but her daughter Georgia explained that lockdown posed her mum new challenges: 'at least she had the scenery change to keep her going. To do 100km in continuous loops round our garden is a huge challenge!'.

With this incredible distance, she has surpassed her fundraising target of ¬£1000, but would still like to raise as much as possible.

If you'd like to donate, you can do so on her just giving page, here.
