10-year-old takes on Lands End to John O'Groats

10-year-old Mia Richardson from Camborne has set herself a huge challenge - running the distance of Lands End to John O'Groats on a cross trainer.

What started out as a fun way of passing time and keep fit during lockdown, has now turned into a way of raising money to help the residents at Blackwood Care Home purchase a magic table. The care home is one of many owned by Cornwall care, and, is also the workplace of Mia's mum.

Having already started counting down the 837 miles, Mia is having a great time running through counties in virtual miles.

CEO of Cornwall Care, Anne Thomas told Pirate FM ‘What Mia is doing is absolutely wonderful and just goes to show that even in lockdown, everyone can help in some way during this crisis. Some of our other homes have got magic tables and they are a brilliant way of providing endless hours of entertainment for people with dementia, using 360-degree projection. Mia's amazing effort will make a real difference and I can’t thank her enough’.

'We’re both super proud of her taking on this challenge. She's certainly not one to be beaten by anything. We realise the cost of these tables is just shy of £6000 and she's only raising what she can towards it but if by some chance she manages to raise enough to buy the magic table outright it will make a big difference to so many residents lives at Blackwood House.

Big thanks to anyone who's donated so far or shared the post'

Mia's parents, Dan and Bernie Richardson

Mia has managed to raise an impressive total of £969 so far, but is still trying to raise as much as she can. If you would like to follow Mia's journey, and donate, you can do so on her Just Giving page, here.
