'Boy Marjorie' hosts live Facebook auction for Cornish hospitals

A man from Cornwall is hoping to raise £5,000 for hospitals in Cornwall by holding a virtual live auction.

Jason Sincock started his Boy Marjorie character around 10 years ago, with a couple of prank phone calls to friends.

"It escalated rom there," said Jason.

"People would be calling me trying to sell stuff and I'd lead them up the garden path, so I set up a Facebook page and it seemed to develop a good following."

Jason, who previously raised £4,000 for the Sunrise Centre oncology unit in Truro, now wants to hand over more cash to two Cornish hospitals.

He's set a £5,000 target in aid of the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro and St Michael's Hospital in Hayle.

There will be a live auction on Saturday night at 7pm on Facebook.

There are over 100 items up for grabs, including a fishing trip for five people, yoga classes, hair cuts and local holiday accommodation.

"Local businesses are donating and getting their names out there," said Jason.

"Everyone has been so generous, it's fantastic.

"We started the target at £5,000 but I've done a bit of fundraising in the past and whether we make, £2,000, £3,000 or £1,000,  it's all good."

The auction

You can find the auction page here or Boy Marjorie's Facebook page here.

Here's some instructions from Jason on how to bid:

To bid in advance, find the item you are interested in in the photo album "NHS Charity Auction Items" on the Boy Marjorie Facebook page.

Place your bid in the comments section of the photo. These bids will become the starting bid for the live auction on Saturday night. Items are updated daily so check it regularly!

To bid during the live auction, just name the amount in the comments on the live video.

The auction will run similar to any live auction you would attend. Keep in mind there is a lag time or delay, so once I "drop the hammer" to close bidding, I will have to wait about 30 seconds to make sure no bids have come in that I have not seen due to this delay.

All payments to be made to the Just Giving fund which is pinned at the top of the Boy Marjorie page. When making your donation, please make sure you name the item you have won. Once your donation has been made, you will be put into contact with the company/person your item was donated by to arrange delivery or collection.

You can donate at the JustGiving page here
