Boy Marjorie's NHS auction fundraising tops £51,000

When Cornwall's "Boy Marjorie" set out to get £5,000 for Cornish hospitals, he wasn't sure he would hit the target.

Now his online auctions have been so successful that not only has he helped more good causes, but he's raised more than 10 times his initial amount.

As he revealed he'd secured £51,000, Boy Marjorie, aka Jason Sincock, told Neil Caddy on the Pirate Breakfast Show that it had become an extra full time job for him and his wife Lisa.

But Jason puts his achievement down to losing his father Rex to cancer.

"I run a little family business that my father started in 1954," he said.

"We lost father 18 months ago with cancer so my efforts are probably induced by a lot of this to the NHS because they're a great team.

"I didn't think we'd even reach the £5,000 target but I knew I had a platform them and could use it. It started as fun and has turned into a full time job and raised a lot of money.

"I know a lot of business people and they just offered things. All these local businesses are happy to donate because they're giving to the NHS and I can shout about them."

Prizes up for grabs in the next auction on Saturday, June 13 at 7pm include a gallon of blackberry mead, a Valentine's break, tickets to see Man Utd and unlimited haircuts for three months.

You can find the auction page here or Boy Marjorie's Facebook page here.

Boy Marjorie

Jason started his comedy Boy Marjorie character around 10 years ago, with a couple of prank phone calls to friends.

"It escalated rom there," he said.

"People would be calling me trying to sell stuff and I'd lead them up the garden path, so I set up a Facebook page and it seemed to develop a good following."

Jason has previously raised £4,000 for the Sunrise Centre oncology unit in Truro and is now using the character for good causes,

The auction

Here's some instructions from Jason on how to bid:

To bid in advance, find the item you are interested in in the photo album "NHS Charity Auction Items" on the Boy Marjorie Facebook page.

Place your bid in the comments section of the photo. These bids will become the starting bid for the live auction on Saturday night. Items are updated daily so check it regularly!

To bid during the live auction, just name the amount in the comments on the live video.

The auction will run similar to any live auction you would attend. Keep in mind there is a lag time or delay, so once I "drop the hammer" to close bidding, I will have to wait about 30 seconds to make sure no bids have come in that I have not seen due to this delay.

All payments to be made to the Just Giving fund which is pinned at the top of the Boy Marjorie page. When making your donation, please make sure you name the item you have won. Once your donation has been made, you will be put into contact with the company/person your item was donated by to arrange delivery or collection.

You can donate at the JustGiving page here
