The tragedy of losing a child has inspired a kid's book about Cornish pirates and pasties.

The Cornish Pasty Pirates is currently on sale at Amazon with a 100% 5-star rating.

It's about a band of greedy pirates who sail the Cornish sea, looking or golden pasties to gobble for their tea.

The fun book is full of colourful illustrations and could be great fun to read with your child.

But it was written during a sad time for author Sarah Hewitt.

"Sadly, my daughter Beth passed away suddenly last year," she said.

"It was a very hard time for all of us.

"I write and illustrate my own children's books and so to take my mind off my sadness I worked on my books."

Sarah decided to put Beth's son Reuben into The Cornish Pasty Pirates.

"My little grandson loves pirates. He is the star and the inspiration for The Cornish Pasty Pirates."

"The poem around which this book is based came to me one night in a dream. I developed it and then started on the pictures," said Sarah.

One review on Amazon said: "I thoroughly enjoyed reading The Cornish Pasty Pirates to my son. So many characters will be discovered to be admired and laughed about. My son smiled and laughed as we turned each page. Artistic genius. I hope to see more books from this author that bring such childhood imaginations to life."

Another wrote: "My 3 year old twins love this book. Doing pirate actions while quoting the book. Lovely illustrations that my children loved to see all the things happening in the pictures."

Sarah lives in Leicestershire but her dad Michael was evacuated to Mevagissey in the Second World War.

"His whole family spent the war there and it was where his heart always belonged, so Cornwall is very special to my family," she said.

Sarah's next book also has a Cornish theme.

The Sleeping Garden is about Heligan but is currently delayed.
