Dawn's dig at Corrie's Cotton for #jamfirst shocker

Some things in the universe will always be important.

And even in lockdown, the priority order of jam and cream on a scone is still relevant.

So when actor Antony Cotton, best known as Sean Tully in Coronation Street, got it wrong on social media, it was always going to kick off.

Antony playfully tweeted a picture of jam on top of his cream with the caption "Don't tell Dawn French".

Fortunately, nobody had to tell Dawn and prompt her for a response, as he'd tagged her in it.

Dawn, the Queen of Comedy for creations such as French and Saunders and the Vicar of Dibley, has long lived in Cornwall.

She's a big supporter of the Duchy, having starred in two shows set here - Delicious and Wild West - and is Chancellor of Falmouth University.

So her initial, and very Cornish, response to Antony was understandable: "How bleddy could you?!?!"

Antony "confessed" but tried to bring Cornwall's Rodda's clotted cream into it to sweeten his mistake.

And it certainly won over the folks at Rodda's.

Dawn, ever the ambassador, brought the saga to a joyous conclusion though when she sealed Cotton's eternal Cornish pledge to do things properly whenever having a cream tea.

Of course the Twitterati had their usual fun at Antony's initial tweet:

And one reminded Dawn that it's a minority that make the mistake:
