Gig rower takes on 241km challenge to raise money for Truro River Rowing Club

Nathan Radbone from Truro River Rowing Club is taking on a massive row, equivalent to the distance of Lechlade North of Swindon to the Tames Barrier in London, to raise money for his club.

In order to fundraise enough to replace the damaged pair of racing oars for the club, Nathan has taken on an epic mission to row the 241km of the navigational part of the Thames.

The row was meant to be done in a traditional wooden pilot gig owned by the club, but due to lockdown, Nathan decided, instead, to take on the challenge from home, on his ergo.

The row has been broken down into sections allowing him to 'visit' various rowing clubs along the river.

The challenge started on the 1st of June and the last stretch of the 241km will hopefully be finished on the 20th June.

The last leg of the journey will be marked with a party, with shanty singing and a small set from the talented Tom Cary to celebrate the achievement.

Every day at 6pm, Nathan has done a facebook live of himself rowing on the dedicated facebook page for the challenge.

Nathan is aiming for £500 in total, and if you would like to donate, you can do so via his Just Giving page, here!
