VIDEO: Deirdre's Last Appearance

Published at 5:57am 20th January 2015. (Updated at 5:58am 20th January 2015)

Anne Kirkbride, who has died at the age of 60, was only supposed to be away from Coronation Street for a few months.

She had taken a three month break and was due to return in the next couple of weeks.

So scriptwriters did not have the chance to give Deirdre a proper send off - befitting her 44 years on the soap.

She was last seen on screen back in October, at the centre of a family row over her stepson's murder trial.

You can watch the moment it becomes too much for her here...

Shortly afterwards she is seen being comforted by husband Ken, who suggests she takes some time off to recuperate by going to visit her friend, Bev.

It will be the last time the Anne Kirkbride appears in the show in person.

In a statement William Roache, who played Anne's onscreen husband Ken Barlow, said: "I feel Anne's loss so personally having worked closely with her for over 40 years.

"She was such a loving and vibrant person. You always knew she was there because her laugh was never far away."

Kirkbride's on-screen daughter Kate Ford wrote: "Heartbroken at the loss of my friend and beautiful on screen mummy. The most crazy funny 100 per cent human. My life was enriched by her".
