Evidence relating to historic sex abuse allegations against Sir Cliff Richard has been passed to prosecutors.

The file was handed to the Crown Prosecution Service by South Yorkshire Police.

The CPS said it will "carefully consider" the evidence.

It comes after Sir Cliff's Berkshire home was searched as part of a two-year investigation.

The 75 year old veteran entertainer has always denied doing anything wrong.

Sky's crime correspondent Martin Brunt says the singer has never been arrested but was interviewed twice about the allegations.

He said: "Sir Cliff has always denied it but now he must wait - maybe weeks or perhaps some more months - before the Crown Prosecutors decide whether to charge him or to decide that there isn't enough evidence or it isn't in the public interest to do so."
