The latest Pokemon Go update may have fixed a lot of bugs - but it also got rid of one feature that a lot of players relied on.

People updating the app on their phones have discovered that the footprints, used to help locate the creatures, have disappeared.

Up until now a number of footprints, from one to three, appeared underneath a picture of wild Pokemon in the vicinity.

It helped players work out whether they were closing in on their target - or going in the wrong direction. Now some say they are having to do it through pure luck.

In the originally beta release the game actually gave a distance in metres, but that was changed prior to its roll out in the UK.

The feature recently seemed to break completely - with all Pokemon constantly three footsteps away.

Now the game's makers have revealed why they deleted the feature and the good news is - it may only be temporary.

Writing on their Facebook page Niantic have written: "We have removed the '3-step' display in order to improve upon the underlying design.

"The original feature, although enjoyed by many, was also confusing and did not meet our underlying product goals.

"We will keep you posted as we strive to improve this feature."

That is being taken by many to mean that it will make a reappearance, in another guise.

The team has also stopped third-party tracking tools from being able to access systems. They wrote: "We have limited access by third-party services which were interfering with our ability to maintain quality of service for our users and to bring Pokémon GO to users around the world.

"The large number of users has made the roll-out of Pokémon GO around the world an... interesting… challenge."

So, the difficulties may only be temporary but, for now, catching them all may be a little bit harder.
