Change Cafe Launch

Pirate FM Education & Training

Each Thursday Café CHAOS in Truro is transforming itself to become the Positive People Change Café!

The aim is to create a friendly meeting place to gather information about the Positive People program and access the support available.

If you are out of work and seeking help to build confidence, motivation or learn new skills the Positive People can assist with a variety of services designed to help.

Positive People change coaches will be regularly on hand sign individuals onto the program alongside representatives from housing, the Jobcentre and a universal credit expert to help answer questions. There will also be a good selection of training providers displaying the great learning opportunities available and on proof of benefits individuals will receive a free meal.

Change coach Lindsay Wake said: “Positive People can help you close the gap between where you are and where you want to be by supporting you to access employment or training.”

Liskeard - 18th January 2018

pir

There was a fantastic turnout for our Construction Industry event at the Elliot House Hotel in Liskeard. It is estimated over 32 thousand construction jobs will become available over the next five years and dozens took the opportunity to find out how they can take advantage.

From long term unemployed to school leavers, there was plenty information on hand to help them make the next step, be that into training or into a job. In fact two people who attended walked away with a job there and then! And of course the Positive People team were out in force to answer questions and help break down potential barriers to work, from travel and childcare to training and skills.

Thanks to Cornwall College and Galliford Try for their support of the event as well as those who took time out of their working day to give an insight into working in the industry.

Callington - 23rd October 2017

Pirate FM Education & Training

We kicked off half term with a blaze of colour at the most colourful arty party ... ever! It was great to see people of all ages sign up to the sessions at Callington College organised by Pentreath for the second in our Positive People events.

A workshop held by actor and artist Laura Frances Martin looked at the work of Frida Kahlo and focused on self portrait, especially the way Frida painted her way through the ups and downs of life and how art can be used to express what's going on for us.

Katherine Collinge had a lively and creative bunch of children who took part in 'Flag and Country' in which they created flags which represented their identities, thought about the countries of the world and how they can create their own dream world.

Some amazing urban art emerged from the session with duo Flying Heads and the 'Hall of Colour' also inspired a whole host of ages from 5 - 75 as they learnt to mix and use colour to full effect.

St Austell - October 1st 2017

What a fantastic start to our series of events across Cornwall! We welcomed dozens of families to St Austell Children's Centre on Sunday where everyone took full advantage of the activities (and cake!) on offer.

The rain didn't dampen efforts to learn how to make a fire, there were circus skills, a rocket workshop, silly science sessions, archery and the chance to be a radio presenter with Pirate FM.

Massive thanks to Dangerous DadsMiss Elvy's Curious School of the Wild, Stak, Cornwall Neighbourhoods for Change and everyone who came along. We loved chatting to you all and hearing your radio jingles!
