About Avanti

Avanti is a satellite operator with a fleet of satellites in orbit delivering internet and communication services across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Avanti connects people wherever they are - at home, at work or out and about. With facilities at the Goonhilly Earth Station, Avanti is proudly connecting businesses across Cornwall with superfast satellite broadband - an important project to the company and many of its Cornwall-based team.

It's Avanti's infrastructure that provides the connectivity for the ERDF scheme to subsidise broadband connection to those SMEs that have no access to fibre broadband.

How does the scheme work?

The European Regional Development Fund, or ERDF, is a fund allocated by the European Union tasked with providing investment in infrastructure and development projects with the aim to grow businesses in specific target areas.

Cornwall was identified as one such area and, in 2017, Avanti and BT won funding to develop business connectivity across the county.

BT are currently rolling out an extension of their fibre network to some key urban areas in the county, however many businesses across Cornwall remain out of reach of the fibre network.

This is where Avanti’s superfast satellite broadband services are being deployed with the help of two certified service providers who will manage the installation and on-going service.
